Growing New Jersey district buys Catholic school building for $5.5M

The Board of Education for the Elizabeth public school system unanimously approved a to purchase the Benedictine Academy property. This is a Catholic school that closed last year. They bought the building for a total of $5.5 million.

“This is a great day for the city of Elizabeth, for us being able to acquire this property in our North End neighborhood,” said BOE President Jerry Jacobs.

“The district is growing by leaps and bounds,” Jacobs said.“

This is really an incredible year. The acquisition of Our Lady of Fatima, the acquisition of St. Genevieve’s, and now the acquisition of Benedictine Academy,” Hugelmeyer said, referring to past building purchases. “This will help our community greatly help our children. It is a very exciting 2021-2022 school year.”
